Training

Futures Theatre has over 20 years of experience working closely with social care professionals, universities and service users to create bespoke, tailored-made programmes.

Our programmes re-create challenging real-life scenarios, giving participants the opportunity to explore and expand their skills alongside their peers. We work with social work students, those in their ASYE and beyond.

How it works

Participants work with actors in ‘real working life’ situations and draw ideas from the collective experience of the group. Scenarios include:

  • Conducting Home Visits: Managing evasion, aggression, disguised compliance and unexpected outcomes

  • Domestic Abuse: Recognising and understanding the dynamics of an abusive relationship including coercive control and working with a perpetrator

  • Effective Communication: In multi agency and supervision meetings

  • Working with young people: reluctance to engage and young people with negative experiences of social care

Learning Outcomes

Our workshops prepare participants to deal with the challenges they'll encounter daily, within a safe and supportive environment. Participants will:

  • Build confidence by practicing direct work and giving and receiving constructive, sensitive feedback

  • Gain skills in overcoming barriers to engagement with service users and building effective relationships

  • Develop reflective, culturally sensitive and effective practice

  • Explore the complexities of and develop skills for working in a pressurised environment

Don’t just take our word for it!

“As an ASYE, it was easy to see some of the pitfalls that happen, especially on video calls. It was helpful to unpick some of that and consider how to approach it differently”

"Insightful, enjoyable and helpful. Great preparation for students to start thinking about placement"

“Thoroughly absorbing and enjoyable - much learning from this. Excellent reflections and feedback”

“Today's session was extremely enjoyable and informative. It will have a significant impact on my practice going forward”

“Best way to learn! I'm a different social worker than the one who walked in this morning”

"Another hugely successful session with our first-year students... thank you for such a great, inspiring session"

“Helpful seeing both scenarios and the realistic nature of the scenarios was very, very useful… It’s very powerful
